Homeless Services United's member agencies offer a wide-range of services and therefore can accept and utilize specific in-kind (material) donations that are in good condition. Donation information on this page has been provided by each member agency. Please click on the name of the borough for information on donation opportunities in your neighborhood. BRONX

Thorpe Family Residence

Thorpe Family Residence accepts donations of second-hand clothing, household articles, toys, children's books and videos. We also accept non-perishable food for our collaborative food pantry.

Bring clothing to Thorpe II at 406 East 184th Street between Webster and Park Avenue in the Bronx.

All other articles should be delivered to Thorpe I at 2252 Crotona Avenue near East 183rd Street in the Bronx.

BROOKLYN

HELP USA's Brownsville Women's Center

Brownsville Women's Center, a Brooklyn employment center and transitional home, seeks donations of women's business suits and business attire for job searches and employment opportunities.

Donations can be dropped off at  Brownsville Women's Center at 357 Saratoga Avenue.  Please contact Nicole Richards, Director of Program Services, at 718-345-3649 for further information.




MANHATTAN

CREATE Young Adult Center

CREATE Young Adult Center (CYAC), an agency operated by CREATE, Inc., is a transitional home for males, aged 18-25, located in Harlem. At CYAC men learn skills that can translate into employment and independence. These men receive counseling, personal and vocational development, and a range of social services. This program serves 150 men each year.

We accept in-kind donations for homeless young adults such as t-shirts, underwear, sweat socks, sneakers, dress shirts and slacks for interviews, and personal toiletry items.

John Heuss House

John Heuss House Drop-In Center is in need of donations of men's clothes and shoes, new underwear, new socks, and towels. Donations can be received 9am-5pm Monday through Saturday, or after-hour drop-offs can be arranged. The best time for drop-offs is Wednesday-Saturday, 5pm-9pm.

John Heuss House is located at 42 Beaver Street in Lower Manhattan.

Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty

The Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty is the voice of the Jewish poor and the first line of defense for our community's needy. We fight poverty through comprehensive social services, and treat every individual with dignity and respect. Our network of grassroots Jewish Community Councils strengthen families and neighborhoods throughout New York City, serving more than 100,000 clients every year.

We appreciate your donations. If your organization would like to do a drive we are happy to distribute what you collect. We always take new toys that do not take batteries. We also accept kosher food, diapers, and new clothing.

Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter

Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter (NCS) is committed to ending homelessness by providing men and women with housing and support that can transform their lives. NCS accepts in-kind donations of dignity items (socks, underwear, soap, toothbrushes, etc.) to distribute to homeless clients at their drop-in center on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Tickets to sports, movies and cultural events, and gift certificates for local shops are also greatly needed. West End Intergenerational Residence

At West End Intergenerational, our clients live at the residence. We house single mother families and up to 70 children ages newborn to 7 years. Donations of new diapers (any size from newborn to pull ups), kitchen items, personal care items and toys are requested. Please bring all donations to the front desk and include a piece of paper with your name and address in order to receive a tax donation letter. Please address your note to Tom Harriman, Director of Programming.

West End Intergenerational is located at 483 West End Avenue in Manhattan. It is at the corner of West 83rd street and West End Avenue.

Please note, we have very limited donation space and consequently we do not accept donations of children’s clothing during the month of December.

 
QUEENS

Met Council - Hillside House

Met Council's Hillside House, a Tier II shelter for women with children, located in Queens, accepts in kind donations such as pampers/diapers of all sizes, wipes, cribs, and formula infamil for babies. Also, household items such as pots, pans, dishes, sheets, towels, shower curtains, utensils, personal items such as soap, shampoo, conditioner, combs/brushes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, cleaning supplies (mops, brooms, sponges), bandaids, feminine products, baby lotions and powders, holiday gifts/books and toys for children, shopping carts, women's and children's clothes, coats, hats, gloves and scarfs.

Donations will need to be delivered. Donations can be dropped off at Hillside House, 163-03 89th Avenue, Jamaica, NY 11433.


STATEN ISLAND

Project Hospitality

Donate Food: Because of the continuing economic slump and the high cost of housing, more people are coming to Project Hospitality for emergency food than ever before. We depend greatly on the generosity of our neighbors in the community to keep food on the shelves of our food pantry. Items in greatest demand are:

Do you garden? We are always in need of fresh fruits and vegetables to distribute to our food pantry customers. Items can be dropped off at 514 Bay Street is Staten Island on weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm. Donate Holiday Supplies: The holiday seasons of the year can be difficult for families that are just making ends meet on a daily basis. Because of generous seasonal holiday donations from friends of Project Hospitality, the children, men, and women in our housing and other programs are able to celebrate holidays along with everyone else in the community.
